interim info -- Elliot's backstory

I've been under stress and haven't felt like drawing, and I apologize.  For the meantime, I thought I could share some background details of the OtW story that probably will never make it into the comic.

Before the comic started, Elliot was a student of some sort.  It's not really important, but I thought it would be something like training in reading, writing, and mathematics so that he can take over his father's merchant business.  Or something like that.  Elliot's heart was not in it, however.  He longed to be a hero.

And so, one day, he trips over a convenient sword and decides he's going to be a hero!  The sword probably said something to that effect, to.  Probably some long spiel about saving the world from evil and/or certain destruction.  Elliot wouldn't have paid attention.  He also would not have questioned why there is a magical sword in the middle of the forest.

So, Elliot has no prior training with weapons.  He's played with swords before, sure, but he's never had any real training.  I'm toying with the idea in the comic of someone giving him some pointers.  But maybe not, because this story is very fast-paced, and that would just slow the plot down.  The unspoken assumption is that Darron could probably teach the kid a few things, since Darron actually does know how to use a sword.

Ah, Darron.  Poor boy.  I thought he was too boring, so I gave him a tragic backstory.  In restrospect, I probably overdid it -- I probably shouldn't have had him freaking out that much about swords, and the dragon . . . but it was just so much fun to draw!

Tune in again, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel for either more behind-the-scenes story . . . or maybe even a comic!  :D

wip

Textless, because I want the final version to have the full effect.  Kiaron does not like to be startled.  Startled Kiaron makes things go boom.  :)

Also, I don't know why my default sketch color is green.  I've never thought about that before, but I've been consistent with it for a very long time.

mostly settled in

But my tablet is lost in the boxes, and I'm too tired to find it tonight. At least I won't need to cook tomorrow, so I should have more time. :)

weekly update

La, well I'm in the midst of moving still. I don't know where half my stuff is. :P I've sketched the next page, but really don't have anything to show yet.

I think I'll be able to get a page done this week, but I have no idea when I'll get the next one done.

number 122

Okay, so here is the page at long last!

Unfortunately, I can't guarantee when the next page will be done. I am moving to a new state, starting a new job, and basically starting a new life. I will try to at least post here once a week with progress updates. And maybe silly sketches, too.

Have a good week!

Inception

Soooo . . . not so good a week, comic wise. Still working on it. I think the problem is, I have a vision in my head . . . but not the skills to produce it.

But anyway, I finally saw the movie Inception. Yes, I know, it's been out forever -- I'm just really picky about the movies I see, and I wasn't sure if I would like it. I did like it, by the way.

But I was thinking after the movie -- I feel like Star Trek has already done every possible sci-fi plot, and so that meant they had already done something like Inception. It took me a while to think of one, but it finally came to me: "Frame of Mind." I haven't seen it for a while, but I think it has a lot of the main elements in common. I'll try to watch it this week, then let you know. :)

Boom!

Kiaron demonstrates his prowess at magic in the new page.

Sorry for how long this took. As mentioned, I made a skirt! (Actually two, since I decided I needed to make a practice skirt). I am now so confident in my sewing abilities that I feel I could sew anything! Hahahaha!

The magic effects took me ages -- mostly because I was trying to figure out how I would convey the awesomeness of that animated spell with a static image. Hopefully you get the idea. Flare is always my favorite spell in Final Fantasy -- until I get the Bahamut summon, which of course, rocks everything. Holy's okay, too, but it never seems to hit as hard as Flare.
